Mel Gibson makes an attempt to reunite with ex-wife
Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Mel Gibson has made some huge mistakes lately, but nothing compares to the biggest mistake of his life: letting Robyn Gibson, his wife of nearly 30 years, go. Now the troubled star will do whatever it takes to win her back including moving his entire family back home to Australia, Popeater.com's Rob Shuter reports.

"Meeting Oksana Grigorieva and leaving his wife was the biggest mistake of Mel's life," a friend of the actor said. "Robyn and the seven children they have together are heartbroken to see what has happened to him. Seeing the man they know as a husband and father being portrayed as a monster is very painful and not the man they thought they knew. However, neither is the man who would walk about from them for a younger Russian gold digger."

Mel and his wife split in April 2009 when Oksana became pregnant with his child. Mel and Robyn continue to speak regularly and raise their children as a team, but that doesn't mean Robyn will ever be able to forgive him and take him back.

Robyn's declaration to an L.A. judge last week stating that her ex-husband had never engaged in any physical abuse of any kind toward her before, during or after their marriage, may have given Mel the wrong signal. Sources say he is now convinced he has a second chance and is begging Robyn to take him back.

"Mel didn't ask Robyn for the affidavit and wept when he found out about [what] she had done for him. He just wants his life to return to normal. Before he ever met that woman," an insider said. "He knows his Hollywood career is over. Now he just wants to return to Australia with his ex-wife and children, Buy a ranch in the outback and live the rest of his life out of the spotlight."

Justin Bieber has toppled Lady Gaga in the knock-down-drag-out fight for most-viewed YouTube video of all time. The teen singer's saccharin hit "Baby" has been seen 250.7 million times as of Monday morning, surpassing Gaga's "Bad Romance" and its 247.6 million streams, Popeater.com reports.

Upon hearing of his conquest, Bieber took to Twitter to thank his legion of fans for watching the video, which co-stars Ludacris, so many times. He was signed two years ago after posting videos on the popular site. "I started on YouTube so the support ... well I just need to say thank u."

The singer was gracious in his triumph, saying Lady Gaga is "an incredible artist" for whom he has great respect and they both have supportive fans.

Zsa Zsa Gabor underwent successful surgery Monday to replace the hip she broke over the weekend when she fell out of bed at her Bel-Air home, her husband says.

Prince Frederic von Anhalt says the 93-year-old actress was in surgery for 31/2 hours at Ronald Reagan UCLA medical center. In a telephone call, he said she was in recovery and he was waiting to see her, the Associated Press reports.

He said her surgeon was happy with everything and there were no problems.

Publicist John Blanchette said Gabor was watching television Saturday night when she reached to answer the phone and tumbled to the floor.

The actress is partially paralyzed from a 2002 car accident, which requires her to use a wheelchair. She also reportedly had a stroke in 2005.

Paris Hilton was briefly detained in Corsica after sniffer dogs detected a "quite small" quantity of marijuana in her bag, a French newspaper reported Saturday.

Corse Matin newspaper said officers at the airport in Figari found about one gram's worth of marijuana. Hilton, who was transiting the French Mediterranean island in a private jet on Friday, was hauled in for questioning and released about 30 minutes later, the report said.

In a story posted on its website, the newspaper said Hilton was traveling along with "personalities close to power in Malaysia" from the French capital to Porto Cervo, in Sardinia.

In a posting on the TwitLonger site Saturday, Hilton wrote, "Just to put an end to these rumors. The stories saying I have been arrested are completely false!"

"I am having the best vacation of my life," the posting said.

Earlier this month, Hilton was arrested after the Brazil-Netherlands World Cup match in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on suspicion of possession of marijuana. The case was then dropped at a midnight court hearing.

Hilton pleaded no contest in 2007 to alcohol-related reckless driving and was sentenced to 45 days in jail. After spending about 23 days in jail, Hilton told U.S. television host Larry King that the experience caused her to re-evaluate the role partying played in her life. She said she wanted "to help raise money for kids and for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis."

Authorities say Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry was rear-ended by a car when he was riding a motorcycle, and he has been treated for minor injuries at a Massachusetts hospital, the Associated Press reports.

Middleborough police say Perry was on his 2009 Ducati Monster 696 early Thursday afternoon when he was struck from behind by a car driven by 62-year-old Linda O'Brien. Both vehicles were traveling at a low speed.

The 59-year-old Perry, who lives in nearby Duxbury, was taken to a hospital and released a couple of hours later. A hospital spokeswoman did not release the nature of his injuries.

O'Brien, who was not injured, was cited for following too closely.

The accident is not expected to affect any of Aerosmith's scheduled concert dates.

A spokesman for Pink's concerts in Germany says the singer fell off the stage after a stunt went wrong and she underwent a checkup at a hospital.

Peter Riegert Concerts' Stefan Guentner said Friday the singer wasn't seriously injured in the incident on Thursday evening in Nuremberg, the Associated Press reports.

While singing "So What," Pink fell out of a harness that was supposed to carry her toward the crowd. A YouTube video shows the 30-year-old climbing back onto the stage after the incident, but the concert was halted, and she was taken to a hospital.

Following her hospital checkup, where no serious injuries were found, she was slated to continue her European tour.
