Ten people were arrested for driving under the influence during an overnight sobriety check point and roving patrols conducted by officers from the North Hills DUI Task Force and city of Pittsburgh.
In all, 968 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, operated from 11 p.m. yesterday to 4 a.m. today, and 17 motorists were administered field sobriety tests. One of those arrested was based on an evaluation by a drug recognition expert.
Other charges filed included one arrest each for possession of drug paraphernalia and underage drinking. Nine citations or warnings were issued for various vehicle code violations and two warnings were given for seatbelt violations.
The North Hills DUI Task Force includes officers from the police departments of Etna, Indiana, Northern Regional, O'Hara, Ross, Shaler and West Deer.
